Pre-empt: weak 2 opening bids

Pre-empts make life difficult for the opponents as their overcall will inevitably be at a higher level.
To open 2 diamonds, 2 hearts or 2 spades, you need:
   - 6-9HCP
   - 6 cards in the suit including two high honors (ace, king or queen)
Careful ! Never open a weak 2 opening with:
  • two high honors outside the suit
  • or 2 aces
  • or 4 cards in the other major

Dominique's advice:
With a 6 card established major, make an opening bid at the 1 level if you have 10-11HCP. This type of hand is too strong for a pre-empt.
