After a weak or ambiguous rebid

PDF
The responder after a weak or ambiguous rebid by the opener.
Weak rebids show a 1st zone hand (12-14HCP). They include : The repetition of the opening suit at level 2 , 1 NT and the simple support of the responder's suit at the lowest level. The bid of a new suit at an 'economic' level is ambiguous, as the H count could be anything from 12 to 19HCP...
  • With less than 8HCP: The responder will pass or support the opener at the minimum level
  • With 8 to 11HCP A game may be on : The responder will make a non forcing bid describing his strength and distribution ( Jump support, repetition of his suit or 2NT with 11HCP)
  • With 12+HCP game at least : forcing bid to look for the best game (3rd of 4th suit forcing, 2 'Roudi'....)

Problème E5030
Situation where the responder (South) has to bid. Here, with 11HCP he invites to game in NT

With a fit : support in the opener's major.
Fitted, the responder's priority is to show support in the opener's major. (non forcing bid)
  • Simple support in the opener's major with less than 8HD points
  • Jump support in the opener's major with 8 to 12 HD points:

In case ofdiffered support of the opener's suit (after a 2/1 suit shift 1st response), any support bid in the opener's forcing....sauf si le palier de la manche est atteint
suit is forcing... unless game level is reached
  • A support in the major at level 3 is a slam invite
  • A support at level 4 in the major is weaker than at level 3 3....

Problème E1602
Game level support with 12HCP and a distributed hand.

Without a fit in a major
Without hope for game : pass or preference bid in one of the opener's suit or repetition of your long suit.
With hopes for game, a regular hand and strength in one of the opener's suit :
  • 1NT after a 1 level rebid
  • 2NT with 11HCP
  • 3NT with 12HCP

With a stopper in another suit, bid that suit : The opener will bid NT, if he holds the 4th suit.
