Fourth seat overcalls after a 1NT response

PDF
In fourth seat, after a 1NT response, bid as if you were in second seat!
Just one difference, your han must be a little bit stronger, that's all! (The responder might very well not be weak.)
  • The Michaels are the same.
  • The takeout double promises 4 cards in the unbid suits with a hand which is a little stronger than if it was made in second seat.

Careful! Your Partner, who has already passed, might have nothing! Take the vulnerability into account.

Problème E 5468 Cue-bid Again, it's the strength of the minor that justifies this over-call.

Problème E5469
PASS Even with 14HCP don't seriously think about doubling. You can't bid another suit as you are not strong enough (17-18HCP are necessary) and your heart stoppers are worth nothing in a NT contract. The opener is placed after you!

Overcall a suit with hands where the high cards are concentrated.
It's not so much the number of points that counts, as the hand's distribution and where the high cards are placed. In the following examples:
  • In spite of those 14HCP, don't overcall with the first hand. A 5332 distribution is the worst (with a five-card suit), the hearts are weak, one of the spade honors will be caught, and the queen of diamonds is worth nothing...
  • With the second hand however, bid 2 hearts. You have a strong six-card suit, a 6421 distribution and the intermediate diamond cards which should convince you!

Exercise E5692 PASS Your hand is not worth those 14HCP. The hearts are weak, at least one spade honor will be captured and the queen of diamonds is worthless.

Exercise E5700 2 in spite of only 10HCP! Your six-card suit is super strong, the distribution is good and the intermediate diamond cards are precious.
