2♣ OPENING

PDF
As a result of a 2 multicolor opening, a 2 opening now becomes the strongest opening.
As well as a 2 multicolor opening, 2 is also a forcing opening bid. You can use this opening with a regular hand with at least 22HCP, any extremely strong one-suiter hand or any other distribution which is Game forcing.
Generally, this opening is Game forcing.
Important 2 is Game forcing, except
  • after a negative or "Drop Dead" 2 response
  • and a rebid by 2NT.
  • In this situation, the sequence is only one round forcing.

    Responses to 2 Opening
The Responder indicates whether he has any aces !
    • 2 : negative bid less than de 8HCP and no aces
    • 2 : 1 red Ace ( ou )
    • 2 : 1 black Ace ( ou )
    • 2NT : at least 8HCP or 2 Kings
    • 3 : 2 Aces of the same color
    • : 2 same ranked Aces (2 major or 2 minor Aces)
    • 3NT : 2 mixed Aces

The bidding sequence is game forcing, except after a negative 2 bid. Opener rebids 2NT . In this case, Responder passes with a bust hand.

Exercise E9483 After a 2 opening, the Responder bids his Aces. In this case he has 2 Aces of the same rank (2 minor Aces), and therefore bids 3.

    Rebid after a 2 opening
In the second bidding round, Opener describes his hand :
    • Regular hand 22-23HCP: the sequence is no longer Game forcing if the Opener bids 2NT after a 2 response. With a regular hand of 0 or 1 HCP, Responder passes.
    • Regular hand of 24HCP : Opener rebids 2
    • One-suiter hand: Opener bids his suit
    • In all cases, the bid of a suit (♠,♥,♦ or ♣) renders the bidding sequence Game forcing

Exercise 9480 After a 2♣ opening, the Opener rebids 2NT to describe a regular hand with exactly 22-23HCP. The bidding sequence continues with the Stayman convention and the discovery of a fit in ♠. Responder can also pass when he has a bust hand!

After the negative 2 response :
    • Opener bids his suit (, or )
    • The Opener rebids 2CO in order to render the bidding sequence Game forcing. He may have:
      • either a regular hand with 24 HCP or more and the team will play at least 3NT
      • or a strong  suit with at least 5 cards

After the 2  rebid, Responder bids a 2 relay bid to allow the Opener to describe his hand (regular or one-suiter). The Opener bids
    • either 2NT if he has a regular hand and the bidding can continue with Stayman, Texas etc...
    • or 3CO with a one-suiter
