Detail specifications 12EA - Level 1

The opener's rebid after a 1NT response.

PDF
By bidding 1NT, the responder promises 5-10HCP
It is the same number of points as a bid changing suit at the one level, but 1NT isn't forcing. The opener can pass if he likes.
   1) Without a major to call and with a balanced hand:
  • PASS with a first-zone hand (12-14HCP).
  • 2 NT with a second-zone hand (15-17HCP).
  • 3 NT with a third-zone hand (18-19HCP).

PASS. If your partner had had 4 spades...he would have said so. It's better to play at the lowest level.

2) With a 4-card major...bid it!

  • Minimum two-suiter: up to 17HCP (non-forcing)
  • Maximum two-suiter: as from 17HCP (forcing for a round)
  • With jump: as from 20 or more HCP (game forcing).

Careful!
