If you have the cards to make a NT contract go down, sometimes you can ask your Partner to play a suit by doubling the contract.

- If the Opponents haven't bid any suit,
- The double asks for a spade lead ... except
- otherwise when it clear. ex. the person on lead maybe has a ♠ honor or many cards in this suit...
- If the Opponents have named one or several suits, double then asks for the 1st suit bid by the Responder.
