A bluff bid on a pre-empt at the 3 level.
In response to a pre-empt opening at the 3 level with a fit in a major with 3 cards, when you think that the Opp has the possibility of winning a Game (or maybe even a Slam !) bid 3NT.
Example
In the example below :
  • The majority of players respond bid with 4 ♥ by using the law of trumps and Opps find their contract.
  • So make a psychological 3NT bid as though you have a strong hand and stoppers in all the suits
  • If your Opps leave you on 3NT, it will be a good sac contract
  • If you are doubled by Opps and you change your bid to 4 ♥ : Opps will have a hard time judging their strength.
Example
Exercise 9983 Try using a psychological 3NT bid as though you have a strong hand and stoppers in all the suits. If you are doubled by Opps you can change your bid to 4 ♥ ! This should be a good sac contract.
