3rd bid after a 4th forcing

PDF
Opener's 3rd bid after a 4th suit forcing bid
  • Priority for Opener to bid a 3 card support in Responder's major.
  • Otherwise, Opener bids 2 or 3 NT if he has stoppers in the 4th suit that was bid as forcing
  • He rebids his 2nd suit (major) if no other possible bid
  • Rebidding the minor promises at least 6 cards.

Problem E9986 3 Without 3 cards in Opener's major and no stoppers in the 4th suit, rebid your 6 card minor.

The Opener's 3rd bid after a 4th suit forcing bid : Prioritise the fit
With 3 cards in the Responder's major, the Opener bids a support fit.
  • At the 2-level with a hand in the 1st or 3rd zone. (mini/maxi)
  • Jump bid in Responder's major with a 2nd zone hand : the Opener's bid in a minor suit is probably because he has a singleton in the 4th suit that was bid, otherwise he would have opened 1 NT
  • Jump bid at the 4-level in a suit with a void : Splinter, 3 card support and a strong hand (at least 2nd zone)

Exercise 9992 3 . The jump bid shows a 2nd zone hand and a singleton. Without a singleton you would have opened 1 NT !

Opener's 3rd bid after a 4th suit forcing bid : rebids of 2 or 3 NT
Without a 3 cards support in Responder's major and a stopper in the 4th suit, Opener bids NT.
  • 2 NT with a regular hand in the 1st or 3rd Zone (mini/maxi bid) : strength will be defined in the next bidding round
  • 3 NT with a 2nd zone hand : after an opening in a minor, he probably hasa singleton in P's suit, otherwise he would have had an opening bid of 1NT !
