Responding to wake-up doubles
Reminder : when you have a 3 suiter a wake-up double at the 1 level can be bid with 8-9HCP
You absolutely have to bid except ... if the Responder has bid.
Be cautious, don't bid as if it were a take-out double..
  • bid at the lowest level with up to 10HCP
  • with 11-12HCP jump bid
  • with a stronger hand, cue-bid the Opener's major to find the best Game
  • with 4-4 in the majors and 8-10HCP, cue-bid in the Opener's minor
  • 1NT with a regular hand, a stopper in Opener's suit, no 4 card major and 11-12HCP

Responding bids to wake-up doubles
Don't forget : Your P who responds to your double has jumped to the 2 level, this is rarely for a 5 card suit. Why? Because if he had had a 5 carder, he would have overcalled during the 1st round of bidding!

Problem E20076 2 A jump which mainly rules out the possibility of 5 cards. Otherwise it would have been 1 after the 1 opening bid.
