Chinese Finesse
A Chinese finesse is a play which consists of playing an honor from your hand to force out the honor ranked one higher and at the same time crush a bare (singleton) small honor (often Jack, 10 or 9) from the other hand.
Example. You're South and you need to make 3 ♥ tricks in order to win your contract : you know that W has 6 ♥ cards. What's your game plan ?

Exercise 4618 Your only hope of making 3 ♥ tricks is to start with the Queen and find the Jack singleton in East. W covers with his King and you manage to take both the King and the Jack with one card play. Therefore your 9 and 10 are now leading and you have your 3 tricks. If W ducks, then force his hand by playing the 10 !
