An uppercut is a defensive technique which consists of deliberately ruffing with your highest honor so as to force your Opp to upper cut and therefore making good Partner's lower honor. This promotes trump and wins a defensive trick.
Example : Trump is ♠. You're in West and play the 10 ♣ which your P needs to ruff with his Queen.
