Impossible bid: 3NT after an initial pass

PDF
Impossible bid: 3NT after an initial pass
After an initial pass, the jump to 3NT a great fit in the opener's major and at least 2 defensive tricks.
For an initial "passer", a 3NT bid after his partners opening in a major cannot be natural...that is easy to understand. In overcall, as in 3rd seat opening, the opener's hand can be weak : The 'passer' himself has less than 12HCP, therefore he cannot conclude at 3NT!
In that sequence, as the 3NT bid is 'impossible', (and thus available...) it is used to show a support equivalent to that of a preempt, but with 2 defensive tricks. In competitive bidding, the opener is thus well informed to find the best contract for his camp: punitive double of continuation of the preempt, particularly .
