Trial bid : after his partner's raise, the opener names a new suit
The responder has shown support with a simple raise. The opener rebids a new suit... i.e. he is proposing to go to game.
  • the opener holds an unbalanced hand
  • and is looking for "something" in the named suit. The "something" could be :
    • A shortage (singleton or void)
    • A high honor

This bid is forcing for one round.
