A bid of 2♠ is the start of the short suit try. Partner must bid 2NT and now you bid 3 of your short suit (singleton or void). If your short suit is spades, you rebid 3♥, showing the spade shortness.

Another danger is that the opps may find a good sacrifice. An opponent doubles with length and strength in the short suit, may find a good sacrifice... but without it you would not have found your game anyway...
