The Responder's 2nd bid after a 1NT forcing

PDF
After a suit change at level 2 rebid by opener
there are 4 types of rebids after a forcing NT initialresponse:
-0 Pass with 5-8 HCP and nothing better to say
    -1 Support in Opener's 1st suit
at the 2 level with 5-10HCP and 2 cards in opening suit
at the 3 level with 3 cards in Opener’s Suit and 10-12HCP
    -2 Support in Opener's 2nd suit at the 3 levelwith a 4-5+ fit in Opener’s 2nd Suit and 10-12 useful HCP
    -3 A suit shift
at the 2 level with no fit, a weak hand (5 – 9 HCP) and a 5-6+ card suit. This is a sign off. Opener will pass
at the 3 level with a top range 1NT (10 – 11HCP) and a good 6+ card suit. This bid is invitational but not forcing . Opener may pass or seek a NT contract.
    -4 A NT bid
at minimum level.... Strength can be shown in later bidding.

With a weak hand
there are 3 types of rebids
-1 Pass Shows a clear preference for that suit. If partner's rebid was 2C or 2D, you should have at least 4-card support to pass. If partner's rebid was 2H (after opening 1S), you can pass with 3-card support.
-2 Retreat to Opener's 1st suit pure preference with 5-10HCP and 2 cards in opening suit. Opener will pass
-3 A simple suit shift with no fit, a weak hand (5 – 9 HCP) Long suit (6+-cards at the 3-level; strong 5+ cards at the 2-level). This is a sign off. Opener will pass

Problem E9800 2 8 HCP, a 3 cards support, a decent hand... raise to level 2 (even with 5 very nice cards)

Problem E9802 2 Definitely not 3 with this awful 4333 distribution. Your hand has no added ruffing value and your lonely Qs aren't worth much.

With an invitational hand (10-12HCP)
there are 5 types of rebids
-1 2NT Shows stoppers in unbid suits, and no fit for partner’s major, with 10-12HCP .
    -2 Jump in partner's 1st suit It shows a 3 cards fit with 10-12HCP
-3 Raise partner's Major rebid It shows a 2 cards fit with 10-12HCP
-4 Raise partner's in minor rebid It shows a 5+-card support, an unbalanced distribution (lack of stoppers for a notrump rebid) and 10-12HCP.
-5 Bid the 'Impossible 2) Shows an interest in NT, a good fit in the minor , and no fit for partner’s major, with 10-12HCP ... but no stopper. Opener will bid NT with a stopper or repeat his minor otherwise.
-6 Jump in a new suit Strong 6+-card suit, invitational.
-7 Bid a game (3NT or 4 of partner’s major) With a maximum hand, improved by opener's rebid (double fit or complementary values). Clearly a sign off

Problem E4819 3Show your strength... jump to the 3-level. This will also complicate your opponents' bidding.

After a strong rebid by opener
there are 3 types of rebids
-1 After 2NT rebid Stayman, Texas transfers or NT bids are all operational
-2 After an inverted 2-suiter All game level bids are sign-offs, all non game fits are forcing to game with potential slam interest.
-3 After a jump rebid of his suit by opener Responder may pass. All game level bids are sign offs. Bidding a new suit shows a fit and a control.

Problem E5317 1NT A poor hand (4333), scattered honors...try to make 7 tricks.. rather than 8!
Give preference to 1NT.

Problem E5442. Here is the famous support 2NT in response to a Major opening. 11 HCP, a 3 cards support and a balanced hand (4432). Your hand may also be 5422, with a minor 5th. Convenient, isn't it ?
