The rule of 15
Example :
You are in South, in 4th seat ; Will you open or pass ?
- Ziadoes not recommend the use af 'automatic rules' : A little thinking most of the time enables you to reach the appropriate solution.
- When does the rule of 15 apply ? You are in 4th seat, after 3 passes and you have less than 12CP, you are wondering wether or not to open.
- The rule says : Add your HCP count and the number of cards you have in ♠ :
- If the total reaches 15 open
- If the total is less than 15 : pass!
Example :
You are in South, in 4th seat ; Will you open or pass ?
Exercise 9636 10HCP only, but you must oprn this nice 2-suiter. the 'rule of 15' confirms your impression : 10HCP +5 cards in ♠ = 15 !
The 'rule of 15' can help :
You have 11HCP and 1 card in ♠. The total is 12, lower than 15, so you must pass.
