This 2 NT is conventional ; it asks the opener to describe his hand further so that slam prospects can be investigated properly.

Openers rebids after a Jacoby 2NT
Different systems exist. Zia recommends the following one :
    Bid :
  • a singleton at the 3 level (3 for shortness, 3 for ...)
  • a three level trump rebid shows 17+HCP and slam interest. It asks responder to describe his hand further
  • Bidding a new suit at the 4 level shows a two suiter at least 5-5
  • Bidding 3NT shows a balanced hand and 13 to 15 HCPs
  • Rebidding the opening major at the 4 level si a signoff, showing a minimum hand !
