You know from the bidding that your partner is weak! He showed his only strength by playing the Jack of spades. He probably has three cards in clubs (he played the 2 in an even-odd signal), so the declarer has only two cards. By playing diamonds, you deprive him of his only entry to the dummy: he will never be able to exploit his beautiful 6-card club suit!
