Voluntary responses to the takeout double

PDF
Your Partner who has just doubled can have from 12 to more than 20 HCP.
The Responder having bid ... you only reply to the double if you have something to say!
Bid your best suit at the lowest level with 5-7HCP
With a stronger hand, bid with a single or double jump to show length
Without a 4-card major and with stoppers in the Opener's suit bid 2NT or 3NT

Be Careful !
A takeout double leads to changes in bidding
  • A change of suit by the Responder at the one level remains forcing.
  • A change of suit by the responder at the two level is no longer forcing.
  • The opener's double is no longer a sputnik but punitive
